Gucci 101:
The Marmont Collection

History

When Alessandro Michele took on the creative direction of Gucci, he wanted to make sure that he paid homage to the brand’s history. He worked his way up at the luxury house since 2002 before debuting his first collection for fall 2015. In 2016, his first big reveal was his reimagined double GG emblem inspired by a belt the brand released in the 1970s on a collection of gorgeous and fun new bags.

The Marmont Collection Breakdown

In just three short years, Gucci has taken the popularity of this collection and run with it. Each season several new silhouettes are offered, further developing the ever-growing range of pieces of this new core collection.

Quilting, Materials, And Hardware

With the new updated GG logo hardware that is typically paired with zigzag quilted leather, the Marmont collection exudes sophistication with a touch of playfulness. Though the zigzag quilting is most common, there are several thicker grained leather pieces that are a more subtle nod to the brand. Gucci has recently released the flap bag in the classic monogram canvas, as well as a new matelasse option for several of the leather pieces.

When it comes to the hardware of the Marmont Collection, Gucci has kept it fairly simple. Up until recently, only gold hardware has been available with three variations: unembellished, textured, or Pearly. The Pearly GG hardware is encrusted with faux pearls and is often paired with a pearl and stud embellished body while the textured is currently only paired with the new diagonal quilted bag with contrast piping.

Special Editions

While several variations and colors have been available over the years, Gucci appears to be limiting how creative they get with this particular collection by capping how often special pieces are released. This may be a smart move if they are planning to make Marmont pieces classic staples in the long run. With this in mind, there have been a few interesting versions that have popped up. Below is a sampling of the unique options that have been available over the last several years.
