LOUIS VUITTON 101:
THE NEVERFULL
By Koyaana R. July 29, 2020
The Neverfull: a namesake that speaks for itself.
With a vast interior that may seem impossible to fill, Louis Vuitton’s most popular tote is by far one of the most sought after models in the luxury resale market.
The History of the Neverfull
Introduced in 2007 and thought to be created to compete with Goyard’s St. Louis Tote, the Neverfull was designed to be completely reversible with its contrasting interior. While it’s not widely publicized, the GM size of the Neverfull is able to hold up to 200 pounds of weight despite the appearance of its delicate handles. In 2013, Louis Vuitton updated their signature tote to include a detachable accessories pouch, and they began introducing additional interior lining colors with an updated print, and a full leather version.
Neverfull Sizing Reference
The Neverfull has only ever been available in three sizes: the petite modele (small model), moyen modele (medium model), and the grande modele (large model), or PM, MM, and GM for short. Each size has a fairly significant size difference, meaning each is great for various uses.
Neverfull Materials
When the Neverfull was first introduced, it was made available only in Louis Vuitton’s classic brown monogram canvas. After its booming success, it was quickly made available in Damier Ebene, followed by Damier Azur, and later, epi leather.

Interior Options and Reversibility
An interesting function that is often forgotten is that the Neverfull is reversible. Due to its unique seam construction and finishing, the tote can be flipped completely inside out for a new look.

There is an ongoing debate over which exterior-to-interior combinations handbag lovers are most fond of. In the beginning, the Neverfull only had two interior options available: beige and cerise (cherry). When it became evident that the Neverfull wasn’t going anywhere, and its popularity became unquestionable, the brand decided to introduce new interior options. Over the years, the options Rose Ballerine, Pivoine, Fuschia, Abricot, Piment, and Mimosa have been available.
Epi Leather Color Range
In 2013, Louis Vuitton unveiled the fan-favorite tote in its most popular size, the MM, in its durable epi leather. Each comes with a detachable accessory pouch, an update that came the same year to the full range of Neverfull totes. Over the last several years, many colors have been made available seasonally, with only a few kept as staples available year-round. At one time, some of the darker colors were made with bright contrasting wax edges for a pop of color. Below is a sampling of several options spotted over time:
Neverfull Special Editions
There have been many special edition Neverfulls made over the last decade, with typically three to four variations released per year, whether seasonal or collaboration. These can be split into two categories: prints, plus unique materials and techniques. Here are some of the most recognized limited edition pieces that have been available.
