collaboration with Leah Tinari
By Rebag, July 30, 2018
Get a look behind the scenes and see how our artist
colaboration collection came to life. Introducing Leah Tinari, an artist who has added her own style and flair to our Rebag collection. Tinari used acrylic paints to enhance a Gucci Bamboo Shopper tote, a Valentino Rockstud shoulder bag, and a Tom Ford Jennifer Zip tote. Watch our video below for more info on the inspiration.
Bold and personal are just two words that best describe our collaboration with Leah Tinari. Tinari, a born-and-bred New Yorker currently based in the East Village, is known for paintings which feature vivid colors and dynamic compositions. No subject matter is too personal – Tinari has been capturing her friends, family, and particular moments in her life through photography and painting for all the world to see. “It’s like a visual diary of what’s going on in my life,” Tinari explains.
Tinari enlivened each Rebag style with her own personal touch. The Tom Ford tote’s white exterior made for an excellent base to add a loud and very-pink pop of color, while the Valentino Rockstud boasts a punk-esque safety pin and charm design inspired by the jewelry collections of Tinari, herself, and her mother-in-law. It’s these inspirations and little details that truly make the collection one of a kind. Tinari goes on to add, “I wanted it to feel like there’s a personal story in there, even if nobody else knows.”
The pièce de résistance is ultimately the Gucci Bamboo tote, now featuring a newly-painted Sicilian landscape, a visual that spoke to Tinari because of her Italian heritage. Painted with layers and layers of acrylic paints in a soothing, warm color palette, Tinari spent hours planning, sketching, and painting this authentically Italian and beautifully-received piece of art.
“There’s something really satisfying about taking this luxury item – which is art in itself – and adding this layer on top of it that personalizes it a bit more,” Tinari describes.
