Saint Laurent Recalls Paloma Picasso’s Sumptuous Style

Saint Laurent Returned to the Eiffel Tower.
Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello looked to one of Yves Saint Laurent’s muses — Paloma Picasso, Tiffany & Co. jewelry designer and daughter of artists Pablo Picasso and Françoise Gilot — for inspiration for Spring/Summer 2022. The result? A collection filled with sexed-up ‘70s glamour.
Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint Laurent’s longtime partner in love and business, told Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello that Saint Laurent created a collection for one woman in 1971: Paloma Picasso. So, half a century later, Vaccarello paid tribute to Picasso and Saint Laurent’s 1971 “Scandal” collection through one of his own.
Accessories were abundant; oversized glasses, chunky costume jewelry, and envelope clutches tucked into waistlines dominated the collection, which called upon the label namesake’s penchant for turning menswear into womenswear with sharply tailored jackets, as well as plunging necklines, and cut-out catsuits.
