All About the Chanel Classic Flap Bag
The Classic Flap was designed by Karl Lagerfeld in the 1980s, inspired by Coco Chanel's original flap bag, the 2.55.
The History of the Classic Flap
This iconic bag comes in several sizes, including Small, Medium, Large – also known as Jumbo – and Maxi. It comes in either single flap, or double flap: the single flap only has one flap-top closure, while the double has two.
Classic Flap Sizes
The most common materials include lambskin and grained calfskin, also known as "caviar" leather, and hardware options include silver, gold, and black.
Classic Flap Materials
The Classic Flap is most recognized for its double-C turnlock, chain straps interwoven with leather, and diamond-quilted pattern, although there are other quilting options available.
Other Features of the Classic Flap
Both the single and double flap bags have a rectangular, main interior but the double flap has an extra zippered pocket on the top flap, and a small pocket for a lipstick. You'll also find the brand name, heat stamp, and serial code sticker in the interior.
