Trend Report
The first Barbie introduced in 1959 didn't wear any pink. Pink didn't become associated with Barbie until the 1970s.
By the 1980s, Barbie came enclosed in a pink box. In 2008 Mattel finally trademarked that color, and Pantone 219C became the official Barbie Pink shade.
The Barbiecore trend started with Valentino Garavani Fall/Winter 2022.
Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli ignited the Barbiecore trend on March 7 in Paris with a daring feat: A monochromatic collection in the same vibrant pink hue for Fall/Winter 2022.
The collection would become known as the Valentino Pink PP Collection.
Anne Hathaway (above), Florence Pugh, Caro Daur, Susie Bubble wore the Valentino Pink PP Collection to the label's Fall 2022 Couture show in Rome.
Margot Robbie stars as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken (pictured above) in Greta Gerwig's upcoming Barbie film. So many stills have been released that they further cemented the Barbiecore trend.
Aqua’s ‘90s dance hit “Barbie Girl” (music video still pictured here) celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2022 after originally debuting in 1997.
Go for a more subtle look with an accessory that adds a pop of pink to your look, or go all-out monochromatic like Valentino and dress yourself entirely in Barbie pink.
